WeDoTV Launches Sports Channel in German-Speaking Countries Ahead of Royal Ascot

WeDoTV has launched WeDo Sports, a sports channel for German-speaking countries. The channel will debut on platforms including Zattoo, Waipu.tv, LG Channels, and Vidaa in Germany, with more to be announced soon. The channel will also be available on the WeDo app and website. WeDo Sports will stream all major German and horse races live, including the UK’s Royal Ascot and the Breeder’s Cup in the US later this year. Other live events that will be available to watch include the German Sailing Bundesliga, the Sailing Champions League, and SailGP.

Weekly Programs

In addition to live events, WeDo Sports will offer weekly programs that will feature highlights from football tournaments, Formula 1, e-sports, martial arts, and more. The channel’s documentaries will cover sporting icons such as Tiger Woods, David Beckham, and Michael Schumacher, as well as teams such as Manchester United.

Expanding Viewer Offering

Philipp Rotermund, Co-CEO and Founder of WeDoTV, noted that the launch of WeDo Sports is part of the company’s vision to create a complete viewer offering in the German-speaking market. He added that the company had received strong interest in sports content on its flagship AVOD service WedoTV in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Creating a stand-alone FAST Channel for sports fans in this market was the next logical step. WeDoTV is also looking to expand WeDo Sports into other markets.

What are FAST Channels?

FAST channels provide scheduled programming that is often focused on a specific genre or program brand. They have been growing in popularity in recent years. Last year, WeDoTV’s parent company, Video Solutions, formed a joint venture with non-scripted studio Big Media to launch FAST channels globally.

WeDoTV’s launch of WeDo Sports on multiple platforms in German-speaking countries comes just in time for the Royal Ascot horse races this week. Sports fans in this market will now have access to live events, weekly programs, and documentaries covering their favorite sports and sporting icons. The launch of WeDo Sports is part of WeDoTV’s strategy to create a complete viewer offering in this market and expand into other markets in the future.
