Warner Bros has made history by becoming the first studio to reach the $1 billion mark at the international box office in 2024. Led by the success of movies like Dune: Part Two and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the studio achieved this milestone in just 15 weeks, setting a new speed record for WB.
Dune: Part Two, directed by Denis Villeneuve, has been a massive hit for Warner Bros. The movie has grossed $411.8 million offshore and has a global cume of $683.9 million. It dominated the box office for three consecutive weekends, both internationally and globally. Following closely behind is Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which has grossed $278.6 million offshore and has a worldwide cume of $436.6 million. This monster mash directed by Adam Wingard has also been a top performer in the international and global markets.
With seven markets yet to open, including the Middle East and Japan, there is still room for growth in box office numbers. The anticipation is high for the release of these movies in these regions, especially in China and Japan where the distribution is handled by Legendary East and Toho, respectively.
Other notable films like Wonka, Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom, Eine Million Minuten, and One Life have also played a significant role in Warner Bros’ international box office success. The studio’s Co-Chairs & CEOs, Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca, attribute this achievement to the exceptional marketing and distribution teams, as well as the creative teams and filmmakers who deliver quality content.
Warner Bros’ President of International Distribution, Andrew Cripps, commended the global marketing and distribution teams for their remarkable achievement. He also expressed gratitude to the exhibition community for their unwavering support. Crossing the $1 billion mark at such a rapid pace is a testament to Warner Bros’ commitment to delivering great movies and engaging audiences worldwide.
