Viaplay, the popular streaming service, has announced the introduction of a new operating model in response to the ongoing economic downturn. This decision comes after the departure of Viaplay CEO Anders Jensen, who served for five years. Jensen’s position will be filled by former MTG CEO Jørgen Madsen Lindemann. Additionally, the streamer’s Swedish and Norwegian operations will merge under this new model.
To ensure the efficient running of local segments, a team of executives based in the Nordic region will be responsible for reviewing and optimizing their respective organizations. The aim is to enhance focus and maximize performance in these areas. Madsen Lindemann will also take on the role of interim CEO for Viaplay’s Finnish operations, while continuing to serve as President and CEO of the larger company. A search is underway to find a permanent replacement for this position.
Furthermore, Lars Bo Jeppesen, the former Snap Nordics boss, has been appointed as EVP and CEO of Viaplay’s Danish and Icelandic operations, effective from August 1. Kenneth Andresen will serve as interim CEO for the Norwegian operation.
Peter Nørrelund, who recently rejoined Viaplay as EVP and Chief Sports & Business Development Officer, will expand his responsibilities to include the group’s operations in the Netherlands, Poland, Baltics, and the UK. All these executives, along with other key leaders, will report directly to Madsen Lindemann.
Focus on Optimization and Customer Satisfaction
The new operating model will be implemented from July 1, and each leader will thoroughly assess their respective organizations to ensure optimal performance and focus. Viaplay plans to unveil the financial impact of these changes by July 20.
Madsen Lindemann emphasized the importance of investing in areas with the greatest potential and creating locally relevant products and experiences for customers. He expressed the need to review the competitiveness of all operations and make necessary changes to drive higher performance levels and improve returns on content and technology investments.
This restructuring is the first of several planned changes aimed at positioning Viaplay for success in the face of economic challenges. Madsen Lindemann, who successfully split the company into gaming/esports and streaming/broadcasting operations in 2018, is determined to lead the company towards continued growth and profitability.
Viaplay’s new operating model reflects its commitment to adapt and thrive during the economic downturn. By optimizing operations, focusing on customer satisfaction, and making necessary changes, Viaplay aims to remain competitive and deliver exceptional entertainment experiences to its diverse audience.
