Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a potential White House candidate, found himself facing a major setback even before he could contemplate running for office. A PAC supporting his campaign had planned an extravagant birthday party for him, doubling as a fundraiser. The event was set to feature a star-studded lineup of “well-wisher guests,” including Dionne Warwick, Andrea Bocelli, Mike Tyson, and Martin Sheen. However, what was meant to be a stellar affair has now devolved into a catastrophic mess, with each of the esteemed guests vehemently denying their involvement in the event. A petty public feud has also erupted between the PAC and Sheen over conflicting statements regarding his attendance.
The event is being organized by the PAC Fighting 4 One America, while another PAC called American Values 2024 is responsible for financing the fundraiser. The birthday bash and fundraiser are scheduled to take place on January 22 in Indian Wells, California. On December 28, American Values 2024 tweeted an announcement stating that “superstar tenor Andrew Bocelli will perform” at the event, alongside the aforementioned “well-wisher guests.” However, this news came as a surprise to Dionne Warwick, who promptly refuted any association or support for RFK Jr., stating unequivocally that she would not be attending any events or fundraisers connected to him. Warwick’s representative even emphasized this stance by sending a follow-up email in bold letters.
It appears that the guest list was compiled without the consent or confirmation of the celebrities listed. The anticipated performer, Andrea Bocelli, confirmed that he will not be attending or performing at the event. Mike Tyson, under the impression that it was a birthday party rather than a fundraiser, had made no plans to attend. Sheen, in a series of social media posts, made it clear that he neither endorses RFK Jr. nor intends to be present at the party. In fact, Sheen explicitly voiced his support for Joe Biden and the Democratic ticket for 2024.
Claims and Conflicts
Not willing to accept these rejections, the hosts of the event asserted that Sheen confirmed his attendance in writing through his representative. However, RFK Jr.’s campaign distanced themselves from the organization of the event, emphasizing it was solely a PAC affair. They stated that they have no knowledge of the attendees, neither confirming nor denying anyone’s participation as entertainment or a guest. RFK Jr.’s siblings, Rory, Kerry, Joseph P. Kennedy II, and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, who have already denounced his presidential run, are also unlikely to be in attendance, further delegitimizing the event.
Behind the scenes, organizers are scrambling to salvage what was meant to be a grand affair. It remains unclear whether RFK Jr. himself will be in attendance or whether alternative talent will be secured. The organizers declined to comment on these aspects, leaving many skeptical of their ability to deliver on their promises. As the event approaches, we are left waiting to see if the organizers can live up to their word and deliver the star-studded extravaganza they had initially promised. Until then, doubts linger about the credibility and organization of this ill-fated birthday party cum fundraiser.
