The American Film Convention (AFC) is set to make its debut in Los Angeles this October, aiming to establish itself as a new film market and entertainment industry convention. With the departure of the AFM to Las Vegas, AFC looks to fill the void and provide a platform for indie filmmakers to showcase their work.
Scheduled to take place from October 15-17, 2024, at Magic Box in Downtown Los Angeles, AFC promises to offer a wide range of activities including a market, auction, conference, product and service showcase, workshop, talks and addresses, pitch fest, networking event, and live entertainment. The event boasts over 100,000 square feet of exhibition space, accommodating 400 exhibitors and participants, with an expected turnout of 5,000 delegates in its inaugural year.
Mitesh Patel, an independent filmmaker and producer, spearheads the event as the CEO and founder. Jon Fitzgerald, co-founder of the Slamdance Festival and former Festival Director of AFI and Santa Barbara, will serve as the Director of Workshops and Conferences. The event has already created buzz on social media platforms and is set to launch its website soon.
AFC aims to be a hub for industry professionals including cinematographers, directors, actors, writers, producers, and distributors. Regardless of budget or production stage, filmmakers are encouraged to attend and participate in the various programs offered by the convention. The event is poised to revolutionize how professionals engage, collaborate, and innovate within the filmed entertainment realm.
Magic Box, the chosen venue for AFC, is known for accommodating large-scale trade shows, conferences, and intimate screening parties. The organizers plan to build out screening facilities for the event and provide a comprehensive experience for all delegates. The Downtown location has previously hosted events like the IGN trade event, showcasing its versatility as a venue for entertainment industry gatherings.
Patel envisions AFC as an innovative entity that will elevate the global film industry and bring the spotlight back to Los Angeles, the entertainment epicenter of the world. The convention is designed to supplement existing industry gatherings and offer fresh and inclusive programs for all participants. With an emphasis on collaboration and innovation, AFC aims to shape the future of the film industry.
Early bird passes for AFC are priced at $325, with exhibition space starting from $3,250. The competitive pricing aims to attract a diverse range of industry professionals and ensure accessibility for filmmakers at all levels of experience. As AFC prepares to make its mark in the industry, it remains to be seen how it will compare to established events like the AFM in terms of participation and industry backing.
The American Film Convention holds the promise of redefining industry standards and creating a dynamic platform for filmmakers to showcase their talent and engage with industry experts. With a strong lineup of activities, experienced organizers, and a prime location in Los Angeles, AFC is poised to become a significant player in the entertainment industry landscape.
