The Rise of Ellen Copaken: AMC Entertainment Names New SVP Marketing

AMC Entertainment, the renowned theater chain, is shaking up its executive team with the appointment of Ellen Copaken as Senior Vice President (SVP) of Marketing. Copaken, who previously served as the VP of Growth Strategy at AMC, has been credited with leading the successful launch of the AMC Perfectly Popcorn in over 2,600 Walmart stores and Walmart.com. Her exceptional sales results and extensive marketing experience have propelled her into this new role.

Copaken’s illustrious career spans several high-profile positions within notable brands such as Frito-Lay, PepsiCo, and Hostess. Her tenure in the industry has honed her skills and garnered praise for her expertise and amiableness. In her new position, Copaken will not only oversee AMC’s marketing efforts but will also retain her current responsibilities for the retail popcorn business. This move highlights the recognition of her exceptional contributions to the success of the AMC Perfectly Popcorn initiative.

Elliot Hamlisch, Copaken’s predecessor, had been commuting between AMC’s headquarters in Leawood, Kansas, and his residence in northern New Jersey. Due to personal reasons, Hamlisch was unable to relocate permanently, leading to his departure from the role. Copaken’s appointment marks a seamless transition, and her impact on the company’s growth is expected to continue.

In conjunction with Copaken’s promotion, AMC is set to expand its branded offerings beyond popcorn. CEO Adam Aron confirmed plans to launch branded candy at AMC theaters. This strategic move aims to further enhance the movie-going experience and tap into new revenue streams.

Restructuring of Departments

With Copaken assuming her new role, the company has made additional changes to its organizational structure. The grocery popcorn initiative will now fall under the Marketing department under Copaken’s leadership. Mark Pearson, SVP & Chief Strategy Officer, will continue to spearhead AMC’s strategic growth opportunities. The corporate communications and public relations team, led by Ryan Noonan, will now report directly to CEO Adam Aron. Meanwhile, internal communications efforts will move to the Human Resources department, helmed by Carla Chavarria.

The appointment of Ellen Copaken as SVP Marketing at AMC Entertainment signifies a new era of marketing prowess for the company.
