Behind the Scenes

After a few shifts in the release dates, Wicked Part One found its place in November 2024, avoiding a clash with Disney’s Moana 2. Jon M. Chu took over the directing role from Stephen Daldry in 2020, bringing a new vision to the Universal Movie Musical Adaptation. Winnie Holzman, the book writer behind the stage musical, adapted the script along with songwriter Stephen Schwartz, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Jared LeBoff and David Nicksay.

The Story of Wicked

Wicked is a prequel to L. Frank Baum’s 1900 book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” exploring the backstory of how Elphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda’s journey to becoming the good witch we know. The film delves into the complexities of their relationship and sheds light on the events that led to their iconic roles in the land of Oz.

Apart from Grande and Erivo in the lead roles, the film features an ensemble cast that breathes life into the beloved characters of Oz. Jonathan Bailey portrays the self-absorbed Prince Fiyero, while Ethan Slater takes on the role of Boq, the loyal companion to Glinda. Michelle Yeoh plays Madame Morrible, the headmistress of Crage Hall, alongside Peter Dinklage as Dr. Dillamond. Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, and Bronwyn James join the cast as Nessarose, Pfannee, and ShenShen respectively, adding depth to the world of Wicked.

With a stellar cast, a talented crew, and a compelling storyline, Wicked promises to be a cinematic experience like no other. The film’s exploration of friendship, power, and destiny set against the backdrop of Oz is sure to captivate audiences and reignite their love for the classic tale. As fans eagerly await the release of Wicked, anticipation continues to build for what is sure to be an unforgettable journey into the heart of a timeless story.
