The Eternal Memory: A Heartfelt Love Story

MTV Documentary Films is thrilled to announce the return theatrical engagement of its heartwarming and Oscar-nominated documentary, “The Eternal Memory.” Directed and produced by Maite Alberdi, this beautiful love story has captured the hearts of audiences and critics alike. Comparable to narrative features such as “Amour” and “Doctor Zhivago,” this film is a must-see experience that will leave you deeply moved and emotionally connected.

“Day by day, the couple face this challenge head-on, relying on the tender affection and sense of humor shared between them that remains, remarkably, fully intact.” These words perfectly capture the essence of “The Eternal Memory.” The film revolves around the lives of Augusto and Paulina, who have been deeply in love for over two decades. However, eight years ago, their lives took an unexpected turn with Augusto’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Despite the hardships they face, their unwavering love and commitment continue to shine through.

As the film unveils, Augusto Góngora played a pivotal role in Chile’s history. He documented the people’s opposition to the military dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet, who ruled the nation from 1973-1990. But “The Eternal Memory” is more than just a story about Alzheimer’s. It’s a profound exploration of collective and historical memory. Augusto devoted his life to preserving Chilean traditions and values, even beyond the fall of Pinochet. His legacy lives on, inspiring generations to come.

In honor of this remarkable love story, MTV Documentary Films has planned a very special Valentine’s Day Drive-In event. On the evening of February 14, couples in the San Francisco Bay Area will have the opportunity to celebrate the love shared by Paulina and Augusto. The West Wind Drive-In theater will be transformed into a romantic haven, bringing together both the film’s narrative and the real-life love it depicts. It’s an experience that promises to be both enchanting and unforgettable.

Starting today and throughout the month of February, “The Eternal Memory” will be exclusively screened at select theaters. New York’s IFC Center, as well as Laemmle Monica Film Center in Santa Monica and Laemmle Glendale in Los Angeles, will serve as the venues for this cinematic event. The immersive big screen experience will transport you into the world of the film, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the emotional journey of Augusto and Paulina.
