The English Adaptation of Momo: A Buzzy Cast and International Production

The English-language adaptation of Momo, based on the fantasy book by The Neverending Story writer Michael Ende, has announced its star-studded cast. Leading the pack is Alexa Goodall, known for her work in A Gentleman In Moscow, portraying the role of the young orphan girl Momo. The ensemble cast also includes Araloyin Oshunremi, Kim Bodnia, Claes Bang, Laura Haddock, Jennifer Amaka Peterson, David Shütter, and Martin Freeman. The film is currently being filmed in Croatia and Slovenia, with exclusive first looks of Goodall already making waves.

Plot and Background

Momo tells the story of a young orphan girl living in the ruins of an old Roman amphitheater who befriends everyone in the neighborhood. However, when a powerful international corporation begins stealing people’s time, Momo finds herself alone, as everyone is too preoccupied to spare time for her, their friends, or families. With the help of Master Hora, the custodian of time, Momo must confront the time thieves to prevent a loss that could be irreversible. The popular novel has been translated into over 50 languages and has sold more than 13 million copies worldwide.

The film is a Rat Pack FilmProduction in collaboration with Constantin Film Production and Westside Filmproduction, in association with Michael Ende Productions and Pakt Media. Constantin will handle distribution in German-speaking territories, while Rocket Science is managing international sales rights. Produced by Christian Becker, with creative producer Amara Palacios, the project also boasts of executive producers Martin Moszkowicz and Oliver Berben, along with co-executive producers Roman Hock and Wolf-Dieter von Gronau. The film’s funding comes from various sources including FFF Bavarian Filmfund, MBB Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, FFA Federal Film Funding, DFFF German Film Funding, and HAVC (Croatian Audiovisual Centre).

The film is written and directed by Christian Ditter, a bilingual filmmaker known for his work on How To Be Single. Ditter and producer Becker have previously worked together on successful German film franchises like Crocodiles and Vicky The Viking. With their combined expertise and experience, the English adaptation of Momo promises to be a captivating and visually stunning cinematic experience for audiences worldwide.
