Hilary Duff Still Optimistic About Lizzie McGuire Reboot

Hilary Duff, star of How I Met Your Father on Hulu, recently recalled a moment from her teenage years on Disney Channel’s Lizzie McGuire during the latest season of the How I Met Your Mother spinoff. In the scene, a flashback from Lizzie McGuire appeared, serving as a nod to fans who were disappointed that the show’s reboot did not happen. Duff expressed her disappointment, saying that the reference to the kids’ show was not enough to satisfy the fact that the Disney+ Lizzie McGuire revival project was put on hold.

The project was one of the highly-touted shows for the Disney+ streaming service. However, the show did not move forward due to creative differences between Duff and Disney. Duff wanted the show to tackle Lizzie’s problems as an adult, while Disney reportedly wanted it to keep its family-oriented vibe. Despite this setback, Duff remains optimistic about the reboot happening.

Duff’s Proposal to Move Lizzie McGuire to Hulu

Duff, who is the star of a Hulu series, has previously proposed that Disney shift the Lizzie McGuire series to Hulu. She wrote on Instagram in 2020 that it would be a dream if Disney would let them move the show to Hulu, allowing her to bring the beloved character to life again. Duff still wants to star in an updated version of the Disney Channel series and believes that the move to Hulu would be the best option.

Earlier this year, Elizabeth Berger, showrunner of How I Met Your Father, confirmed that the inclusion of the Lizzie McGuire clip was a nod to fans who were disappointed that the reboot did not happen. She said that they wanted to give people a tiny taste of what they didn’t get with the reboot and that it was really fun to do.

Hilary Duff remains optimistic about the Lizzie McGuire reboot, even though it was put on hold due to creative differences with Disney. She wants to tackle Lizzie’s problems as an adult, and has proposed moving the show to Hulu. Fans were thrilled to see a nod to the show in a recent episode of How I Met Your Father, but it remains to be seen whether the reboot will ever happen.
