Disney Distribution EVP Ken Caldwell Retires After 39 Years

Disney Distribution’s Executive Vice President and General Sales Manager of North America, Ken Caldwell, has announced his retirement, effective at the end of 2023. After dedicating 39 years to the company, Caldwell will be leaving behind an illustrious career overseeing the distribution of Disney’s extensive portfolio, including the likes of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and animation titles.

Throughout his tenure at the Mouse House, Caldwell played a pivotal role in the success of numerous Disney blockbusters that have left a lasting impact on the domestic box office. His strategic vision contributed to the triumph of films like “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” “The Lion King,” “Zootopia,” “Frozen,” “Toy Story,” “The Incredibles,” “Avengers: Endgame,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” and various Disney Star Wars movies such as “The Force Awakens,” “The Last Jedi,” “The Rise of Skywalker,” and “Rogue One.”

Apart from his professional achievements, Caldwell has also been recognized for his unwavering support of the U.S. Armed Forces. Starting in 2012 with “Guardians of the Galaxy,” he made multiple trips to combat zones in the Middle East, including Afghanistan and Iraq. Additionally, he made special efforts to bring first-run screenings of Disney titles to U.S. Navy aircraft carriers. His commitment extended to troops stationed in Djibouti, Africa, and the maiden deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford.

Caldwell’s journey with Disney began in Chicago, where he gained valuable experience. He later worked as a film buyer for General Cinema Theaters in Dallas. In 1986, he rejoined Disney and steadily climbed the ranks within the theatrical distribution team. Throughout his career, he held executive positions in Chicago, Atlanta, and New York before ultimately settling in Burbank in 2011. Since 2019, Caldwell has served as the Executive Vice President and General Sales Manager.

With Caldwell’s retirement on the horizon, Disney will be tasked with finding a suitable successor to fill his shoes. The individual chosen will inherit the responsibility of overseeing the distribution of Disney’s vast range of beloved franchises, studios, and titles. As Disney continues to dominate the entertainment landscape, the selection of a capable and visionary leader will be crucial in maintaining the company’s success.
