Constantine 2 Update: Francis Lawrence Talks Development with Keanu Reeves

Francis Lawrence has recently provided an update on the development of Constantine 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2005 superhero horror film. Despite a lengthy delay caused by the writers strike, progress is being made and things are seemingly moving along. Lawrence mentions that with the writers back at work, he has been in meetings with Keanu Reeves to continue the saga.

Constantine 2 initially faced hurdles and delays due to the writers strike. Lawrence explains that they had to go through a series of challenges to regain control of the character, as others had control of the Vertigo stuff. However, now they finally have control and are excited to move forward with the project.

The director, Keanu Reeves, and writer Akiva Goldsman have been actively involved in the development process. They have been meeting, discussing, and brainstorming ideas to shape the story of Constantine 2. While there are still more meetings to come and the script needs to be written, Lawrence expresses hope that they will be able to bring Constantine 2 to life, and deliver a true, rated R version of the film.

The Source Material

Constantine is loosely based on the DC Comics/Vertigo Comics’ Hellblazer series. Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello wrote the script for the first film, drawing inspiration from a story by Brodbin. The protagonist, John Constantine, portrayed by Keanu Reeves, possesses the unique ability to perceive the true forms of half-angels and half-demons, all while being a chain-smoking cynic. The film also features a talented ensemble cast, including Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Tilda Swinton, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Djimon Hounsou, Gavin Rossdale, Peter Stormare, Max Baker, Francis Guinan, José Zúñiga, Jesse Ramirez, April Grace, and Tanoia Reed.

Fans of Constantine can now breathe a sigh of relief, as development for Constantine 2 is making significant progress. With Francis Lawrence spearheading the project, in collaboration with Keanu Reeves and Akiva Goldsman, there is a sense of excitement and anticipation surrounding the forthcoming sequel. As the story gets refined and the script takes shape, Constantine 2 promises to deliver an intense, dark, and gritty portrayal of the iconic character. Moviegoers can look forward to a true, rated R version that stays true to the source material and showcases the complexities of John Constantine’s world.

Constantine 2 has been highly awaited by both fans of the original film and enthusiasts of the Hellblazer series. The combination of Francis Lawrence’s directorial prowess, Keanu Reeves’ portrayal of the enigmatic John Constantine, and the involvement of Akiva Goldsman is a recipe for success. As the development progresses, audiences can anticipate an immersive cinematic experience that delves deeper into the supernatural realms and explores the duality of angels and demons. Constantine 2 promises to be a thrilling continuation of the beloved franchise, offering viewers a darker and more mature take on the iconic character.
