Chace Crawford Reflects on His Unconventional Role in “The Boys”

Chace Crawford, known for his role in Gossip Girl, has taken on a completely different character in the Prime Video series “The Boys”. The actor recently opened up about his initial reservations regarding his character, The Deep, and his unusual relationship with an octopus named Ambrosius.

Crawford admitted that he had serious doubts about taking on the role when he first learned about the intimate scenes with the octopus. He even mentioned that he had a panic attack just hours before filming the first sex scene with the sea creature. However, he praised showrunner Eric Kripke for being supportive and making necessary adjustments to ease his anxiety.

Behind the Scenes Details

The actor revealed that there was an intimacy coordinator on set for regular sex scenes, but the scenes with the octopus were treated differently. The set was cleared out, and everyone was instructed to maintain confidentiality during the filming. Despite the initial apprehensions, Crawford was pleasantly surprised by the positive reception from fans, even encountering a fan dressed as The Deep with a pink octopus at a Comic-Con event.

Kripke shared insights into the casting process for Ambrosius, revealing that they specifically wanted a British actress with an Oscar-winning background. The decision to cast Tilda Swinton for the voiceover added a touch of sophistication to the character, despite initial reservations due to the limited availability of top-tier actresses.

Chace Crawford’s journey from Gossip Girl heartthrob to a quirky superhero in “The Boys” showcases his versatility and willingness to take on unconventional roles. Despite initial hesitations, Crawford embraced the challenge and delivered a performance that captivated both fans and critics alike.
