CBS Orders New Pilot for 2025-26 Broadcast Season

CBS continues to showcase its commitment to long-term planning and development by ordering yet another pilot aimed at the 2025-26 broadcast season. This latest addition to their lineup is a drama titled Einstein (working title), created and executive produced by Andy Breckman and Randy Zisk, known for their work on the popular TV series Monk. This pilot order comes on the heels of another comedy pilot, DMV, and the development of the comedy series Eternally Yours (working title), as CBS gears up for the premiere of Sheriff Country, its first new scripted series for the 2025-26 season.

The journey to bring an American adaptation of the German procedural show Einstein to the screen has been a lengthy one. This attempt marks the third time at CBS and the fourth overall in trying to capture the essence of this intriguing concept. The show centers around the great-grandson of Albert Einstein, a brilliant yet aimless professor who finds himself assisting a local police detective after getting entangled in legal trouble due to his rebellious behavior. Drawing comparisons to popular series like Monk and Numbers, Einstein promises to be a thrilling addition to CBS’s lineup.

The pilot for Einstein is penned by Andy Breckman, with Randy Zisk set to direct. The duo also serves as executive producers alongside Tariq Jalil from Intrigue and a team from Seven One Studios International. Jalil has been instrumental in shepherding the U.S. adaptation of the Red Arrow format over the past six years, a testament to the dedication and perseverance required in the entertainment industry. The German version of Einstein, which inspired this adaptation, enjoyed success with a three-season run on Sat.1, featuring Tom Beck and Annika Ernst in leading roles.

CBS’s Reshaped Development Strategy

CBS’s approach to development has undergone a significant shift, as evidenced by their decision to forego traditional pilot orders during the January-May window. This change reflects the network’s willingness to adapt to the evolving television landscape and prioritize quality over rigid timelines. CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach emphasized the importance of maximizing opportunities and ensuring that each project receives the attention and resources it deserves. By ordering pilots and setting up development rooms well in advance, CBS aims to streamline production processes and enhance marketing efforts for upcoming seasons.

Looking Ahead

As CBS forges ahead with its long-term development strategy, the network remains committed to delivering engaging content for viewers. By upholding a proactive approach to pilot orders and staying ahead of the curve in terms of planning, CBS sets the stage for continued success in the ever-changing entertainment industry. With Einstein and other promising projects in the pipeline, CBS is poised to captivate audiences and solidify its position as a leader in television programming.
