Breaking News: Sonequa Martin-Green Joins Independent Artist Group

Independent Artist Group has just scored a major victory in their ongoing signing spree. They have successfully brought on board Sonequa Martin-Green, who has made history as the first Black female Starfleet Captain in the Star Trek franchise. With this achievement, she has also become the first Black female lead in the iconic series.

Dubbed as a trailblazer, Sonequa Martin-Green gained immense popularity through her role as Michael Burnham in Star Trek: Discovery. Set a decade prior to the beloved Enterprise, this Emmy-award-winning series follows the journey of Martin-Green’s character, who joins the USS Discovery as its science specialist. Prior to this, she had been imprisoned for a mutiny above the USS Shenzhou.

Apart from her incredible acting skills, Martin-Green also serves as a producer on Star Trek: Discovery. The show, originally created for CBS All Access (now Paramount+), is expected to return for its highly anticipated fifth and final season in the coming year.

Before making her mark in the Star Trek universe, Sonequa Martin-Green was well-known for her role as Sasha Williams, a survivor of a zombie outbreak, in the popular AMC series, The Walking Dead. Her talent and versatility have also been showcased in other notable television shows, including Fox’s New Girl, ABC’s Once Upon a Time, and CBS’ The Good Wife. Additionally, she has made appearances in films such as Space Jam: A New Legacy and the indie movie The Outside Story, alongside Brian Tyree Henry.

Not limited to screen performances, Martin-Green has excelled in the theater world as well. She originated the role of Sonji Clay, Muhammad Ali’s first wife, in the play Fetch Clay, Make Man. Off-Broadway, she has been seen in the production Outside People.

In her latest endeavor, Sonequa Martin-Green has wrapped up filming for My Dead Friend Zoe, a dark indie dramedy. In this film, she shares the screen with esteemed actors Ed Harris and Natalie Morales. Not only does she showcase her acting prowess, but she also takes on the role of an executive producer for this project. My Dead Friend Zoe explores the complexities of a female veteran’s relationship with a wise-cracking, deceased army comrade.
