Brandon Blackstock, ex-husband of Kelly Clarkson, recently responded to the lawsuit filed by the singer. In the lawsuit, Clarkson claimed that Blackstock should pay her more than the $2.6 million that a California labor commissioner ruled he owed her for illegally acting as an “unlicensed talent agency” since 2007. Blackstock denied all the allegations made by Clarkson and argued that the filing should be dismissed on the grounds that the labor commissioner’s ruling was made in November 2023. Since Clarkson failed to appeal within 10 days of the decision, Blackstock claimed that filing a separate lawsuit now is outside the proper jurisdiction.
According to the documents obtained by Page Six, Blackstock’s attorneys stated that any alleged illegal procurement from acting as an unlicensed talent agency has already been paid out partially or in full to Clarkson. They argued that Clarkson’s complaint fails to state facts sufficient to constitute a cause of action against Starstruck Entertainment. The documents also mentioned that all agreements between the parties should be void and unenforceable and that all monies paid by Clarkson to Starstruck should be disgorged.
In March, Clarkson filed the new lawsuit against Blackstock after the commissioner ruled that he and Starstruck Entertainment violated California’s Talent Agencies Act. The ruling stated that Blackstock should not have been involved in Clarkson’s deals for various projects. The lawsuit obtained by Page Six stated that Clarkson should be reimbursed for commissions, fees, profits, advances, producing fees, or other monies.
Blackstock’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, retaliated against Clarkson’s claims by stating that it was morally, ethically, and legally wrong to try to get money back from an ex-husband who had supported her career and used those earnings for their children and lifestyle. The ongoing legal battle between Blackstock and Clarkson dates back to 2020 when Starstruck sued her for unpaid commissions. The company argued that they had invested a significant amount of resources into her career, contributing to her success as a singer.
Divorce Settlement
Blackstock and Clarkson finalized their divorce in 2022, with Clarkson being ordered to pay a one-time settlement, monthly child support, and spousal support. The couple shares two children together, and their separation has been marked by financial disputes and legal battles.
The ongoing legal drama between Brandon Blackstock and Kelly Clarkson continues to unfold as they both navigate the complexities of their divorce settlement and financial disagreements. The public eye remains fixed on the proceedings, highlighting the challenges of maintaining a professional relationship post-divorce in the entertainment industry.
