Kim Murray, wife of tennis star Andy Murray, has spoken exclusively with HELLO! about the 10th anniversary of his first Wimbledon win. While a few of his sponsors have plans to mark the occasion, Andy himself will not be doing anything special, saying that he is simply glad to still be playing at Wimbledon after ten years. Despite injuries and some lows, Andy is looking forward to this summer’s tournaments, saying that he is feeling good on the grass after a recent win.
Running the Cromlix Hotel
When they are not at tennis courts, the Murrays can often be found at their Cromlix hotel in Dunblane. The 15-room hotel holds a special place in the couple’s hearts, as it was the venue for their wedding reception in 2015, and Andy’s brother Jamie also held his nuptials in the on-site chapel five years previously. With four children, including a two-year-old, Kim says the children love visiting the hotel and spending time in Scotland.
The couple purchased the hotel ten years ago, and Kim has taken on the running of it as a personal project, with the aim of keeping it open as a thriving business for the local community. While balancing the demands of running a hotel with a busy family household in Surrey has been a juggle, Kim says that the children are excited about visiting the hotel and have been understanding of her need to be busy.
The Future of Cromlix
While the couple have a busy schedule ahead, with Grand Slams and school holidays, they have plans for the future of Cromlix. They will be embarking on some exciting building work around the hotel’s loch next year, with plans for a selection of self-contained eco-cabins for guests to rent. The cabins will be a mix of one, two and three-bedroom, self-contained units and will offer guests a way to immerse themselves in the Scottish countryside while having access to all of the hotel’s luxury amenities. They also plan to build a new restaurant to accommodate the demand, as the hotel continues to thrive.
Kim says that she is finding herself spending more and more time at the hotel, and has worked hard to put her own stamp on it. She has worked closely with an interior designer to choose wallpapers, fabrics and furnishings that she loves and that reflect the beautiful Scottish countryside. There is a relaxed, home-away-from-home feel to the hotel, with some crazy artwork on the walls and bold paint colours mixed with vibrant wallpapers to give it some colour and life.
Andy’s grandmother’s shortbread is in every room when guests arrive, and Andy was quite insistent on buying the best mattresses they could find, as he has travelled all around the world and knows how important a good night’s sleep is. Kim’s favourite bedroom is Tulip, while Andy’s favourite room is the billiards room with its full-sized billiards table and pick ‘n’ mix sweet selection.
The Murrays’ busy lives might be a juggle, but it is one that Kim relishes, and she says that spending time at Cromlix has been really special for the family. With their future plans for the hotel, the Murrays will continue to provide a unique and luxurious experience for guests looking to immerse themselves in the Scottish countryside.
