A Glimpse of Autumn at Althorp House: A Hidden Gem Unveiled

Autumn has arrived at Althorp House, and Charles Spencer, the ninth Earl Spencer, has graciously shared a captivating video of a rarely-seen area of the estate. With a keen eye for capturing exquisite moments, Charles took to his Instagram account to offer a glimpse of the stunning stable block situated on the left-hand side of the lavish Althorp House. Bathed in warm sunbeams, the building appeared to radiate an ethereal glow as Charles smoothly panned the camera across the area. The sight was truly mesmerizing. As the caption of the video on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Charles wrote, “Autumn Equinox – and the bells of the Stables ringing in this gorgeous day.” The allure of this hidden gem is undeniable, and it has left many bewitched by its splendor.

Despite the transition into autumn, the sky above Althorp House remained clear, painted in a beautiful shade of blue, providing a stunning backdrop to the stable block. This serene scene captured the hearts of friends and fans alike, as their comments overflowed with adoration and appreciation. Immersed in the tranquility, one admirer eloquently expressed, “So peaceful, what a wonderful place to live.” Another follower added their gratitude, saying, “Good morning & thank you so much with Quercus, and the bells of the Stables ringing in this gorgeous day.” The profound tranquility of Althorp House accompanied by the breathtaking visuals has called for a slow TV program walking through its grounds. Such an endeavor would undoubtedly be a welcome respite to many, as expressed by an eager commenter who proposed, “A slow TV program walking around the grounds would be lovely. Calling BBC4!!”

Althorp House holds a special place in the hearts of many due to its connection to Princess Diana. At the tender age of 14, Diana, along with her family, moved into the property. However, at 18, she ventured to Earl’s Court in West London, where her mother had purchased her a flat. Following her divorce from Prince Charles, Diana longed to return to Althorp but her brother denied her request. Today, her final resting place lies within the estate, in the midst of the enchanting Round Oval Lake. This sacred ground, where she rests eternally, remains inaccessible to the public, even when the house opens its doors for visitors.

Remembering Princess Diana’s Legacy

In an attempt to honor Princess Diana’s memory, Althorp House provides a special temple to which members of the public can pay their respects. This secluded temple grants individuals the opportunity to bring flowers, cards, and tributes to the late Princess. Charles revealed that this memorial area was not originally constructed for his sister but rather for their ancestor, George John Spencer, who played a prominent role in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. Sharing a captivating photo of the temple on Instagram, Charles shed light on its history, stating, “Beautiful autumn colors in the grounds of @althorphouse today. This temple, now dedicated to my late sister’s memory, was originally commissioned by our ancestor, George John Spencer. He was in charge of the Royal Navy in the early part of the Napoleonic Wars. In 1798, initial reports from Egypt indicated that the British fleet was destroyed by the French, leaving George John in shock. However, when the true version of the Battle of the Nile emerged, revealing Nelson’s astonishing victory over the French, George John had this structure built as a token of his gratitude to God.”
